What is there to for the children to do? As a parent, it’s great to know what options are available for your children to have fun, learn, experience, and grow. Let’s take a look at what activities are available for your kids in or around Ridgefield.
There are several discovery and nature centers, such as: the Discovery Center at Ridgefield, Woodcock Nature Center, and New Canaan Nature Center. The centers encourage an appreciation of nature and science. The Discovery Center has no building, so the programs take place in several different locations with all sorts of activities. There are nature walks, art programs, events with live animals and history events to help your children gain experience in each area while having fun. They can learn about plants and animals, go on treasure hunts, create art projects, enjoy summer camp, go hiking, camping, on fun runs, and so much more! Take your children out to explore nature the way we did as kids; skipping rocks, riding bikes, and playing in the creek.
For parents of younger children and toddlers, take your little one(s) over to Muscoot Farm in Katonah to enjoy the historic farm. The farm even has two preschool age programs: Little Farmers and Muscoot Wranglers. These programs help your four and five year olds learn about different farm animals and enjoy hands-on experience with them. There are also adult workshops and youth workshops for all ages, so Muscoot Farm can be a great time for everyone in the family. Another great idea for tots, if you prefer indoors, would be Jumpin Jeepers or Tot Town. Both of these are indoor play places where your kids would enjoy hours of fun.
Museums are a great local activity for younger and older kids alike to enjoy. There are actually several museums in the area that would appeal to children. The Danbury Railway Museum provided tours, railroad history, train rides, and hands-on railroad work. Bridgeport Discovery Museum offers three different floors of hands-on learning and fun with science and daily Planetarium shows. 
Stepping Stones Museum is another fun hands-on museum. There is a Tot Town for littles, as well as areas for kids that are a little bit older. Energy Lab reviews the science of energy in a working lab. Express yourself gives children the opportunity to communicate through art, music and games.
If you’re just looking for something fun for your kids to do after school, send them over to the Boys and Girls Club! There’s so much your kids can do there to keep them entertained until you are able to pick them up, or just to give them something fun and productive to do in their spare time. The club has a Power Hour homework program to assist your child with their homework. The tech center is used for homework, and there is a weekly tech challenge that usually incorporates the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Adobe Paint. The club hosts plenty of fun activities like this, as well as daily gym games, game room tournaments, and an open art studio for crafts, drawing, design, and more.
